How many pixels is in a power supply?

Release time:Jun 27,2022View:44599

RGB LED pixel ball rated in .06A, the combination of red, green and blue color, as well as other electronic components. While RGBW LED pixel ball rated in .08A, the combination of red, green and blue colors, including its electronic components.
Formula as below:
P = IE
Power (Watts) = Intensity (Amps) * Electromotive Force (Volts)

1. 20mm Pixel Ball (Diamond Crystal)
    RGB: 12v*.06A = .72W

2. 35/50mm Pixel Ball (Stripped Pineapple)
    RGB: 24v*.06A = 1.44W

3. 35/50mm Pixel Ball (Hollow Milky)
    RGB: 24v*.06A = 1.44W

4. 50mm Pixel Ball (Solid Frosted Acrylic)
    RGB: 15v*.06A = .9W
    RGBW: 15v*.08A = 1.2W

Power supply examples:

LRS-350, available in 5V, 12V, 24V, 48V. 350W indoor use only, from brand Meanwell.
HLG-320H, available in 5V, 12V, 24V, 48V. 320W outdoor available, from brand Meanwell.

To protect the power supply’s lifespan, 80% loading will do good.
LRS-350, 350W*80% = 280W
HLG-320, 320W*80% = 256W

Here comes the quantity for the 360° pixel ball families.
1. 20mm diamond crystal
    RGB pixel ball quantity
    280W/0.72W = 388
    256W/0.72W = 355

2. 35/50mm Pixel Ball (Hollow Stripped Plastic)
    RGB pixel ball quantity
    280W/1.44W = 194
    256W/1.44W = 177

3. 35/50mm Pixel Ball (Hollow Milky Plastic)
    RGB pixel ball quantity
    280W/1.44W = 194
    256W/1.44W = 177

4. 50mm Pixel Ball (Solid Frosted Acrylic)
RGB pixel ball quantity      RGBW pixel ball quantity
    280W/0.9W = 311         280W/1.2W = 233
    256W/0.9W = 284         256W/1.2W = 213

In order to avoid the power drop, sufficient voltage will be in need of some inline power injections.
So how many pixel spheres will need a power injection? Let’s plug in some ampere calculations, the table below shows different data including both the resistance of the various wire gauges and the allowable current (ampacity) based on a copper conductor with plastic insulation.

Notes

a. CSA = Cross Section Area
R/UL = Resistance per Unit Length
    NA = Normal Ampere
    MA = Maximum Ampere

b. Wire diameter calculation
The n gauge wire diameter dn in millimeters (mm) is equal to 0.127mm times 92 raised to the power of 36 minus gauge number n, divided by 39:
dn (mm) = 0.127 mm × 92(36-n)/39
0.127mm is the diameter of gauge #36.

Wire cross sectional area calculation
The n gauge wire's cross sectional area An in square millimeters (mm2) is equal to pi divided by 4 times the square wire diameter in millimeters (mm):
An (mm2)  = (π/4)×dn2 = 0.012668 mm2 × 92(36-n)/19.5

Normal current calculation and Max current calculation

NA (A) = (Di)2 / 500
D=1000, i = inch (diameter of wire in inch)

MA (A) = (Di)2 /438.489
D=1000, i = inch (diameter of wire in inch)

The Awg wire used for our pixel families as follow
1. 20mm diamond crystal
    22AWG
2. 35/50mm Pixel Ball (Hollow Stripped Plastic)
    20AWG
3. 35/50mm Pixel Ball (Hollow Milky Plastic)
    20AWG
4. 50mm Pixel Ball (Solid Frosted Acrylic)
    17AWG

So the normal current (A) and max current (A) for the pixel balls as follow
1. 20mm diamond crystal
    NC: 1.28A, MC: 1.46A
2. 35/50mm Pixel Ball (Hollow Stripped Plastic)
    NC: 2A, MC: 2.3A
3. 35/50mm Pixel Ball (Hollow Milky Plastic)
    NC: 2A, MC: 2.3A
4. 50mm Pixel Ball (Solid Frosted Acrylic)
    NC: 4.1A, MC: 4.7A
